Task-specific instructions

Skills

Skills give a coding agent focused instructions for a project or type of task. Lasso discovers project skills automatically and lets you choose which discovered or uploaded skills to include with a prompt.

Project skill locations

Add a SKILL.md file under any of these directories. A skill can live directly inside the directory or in its own nested folder.

skills/my-skill/SKILL.md
.agents/skills/my-skill/SKILL.md
.claude/skills/my-skill/SKILL.md
.codex/skills/my-skill/SKILL.md
.cursor/skills/my-skill/SKILL.md

Open the Skills control beside the selected-element prompt or one-shot command bar to see skills found in the project.

Upload a personal skill

  1. Open the Skills menu.
  2. Choose Upload a skill and select a Markdown file.
  3. Enable it in the Skills list when it applies to a task.

Uploaded files are stored under ~/.lasso/skills/ and are available in other projects on this computer. Keep the file focused on instructions the agent needs for that skill.

Built-in UI Design Craft

Lasso includes its UI Design Craft skill by default for selected-element tasks and UI-focused coding prompts. It guides the agent to follow your explicit request and the project's existing design system, then make a focused change with attention to layout, typography, responsive behavior, accessibility, and visual consistency.

The built-in skill does not force one visual style. Existing product conventions and your instructions take priority.

How skills reach the agent

Selected skills are attached only to the task you send. Local CLI agents receive the instructions in their task prompt. Hosted coding requests receive them as task-scoped context through the Lasso AI service.

Review uploaded skill files before using them. Their instructions become part of the agent's task context.
